Is the recasting (bootlegging) of model kits a blessing or a curse? On one hand, recast kits allow people to purchase kits that are either out of production or hard to find and are fairly inexpensive. On the other hand, recast kits offer less detail, are sometimes 15% smaller than the original kit, and have caused many model companies to either go out of business or change their way of doing business in recent years.
